which distribution would you prefer? :-)
if we consider that millions of flies can't err, then the finger (http://distrowatch.com/) is clearly pointing into Ubuntu's direction :-)

i'm using it myself and have to say it's pretty 'newbie-friendly'.
to avoid annyoing hassle with 'how to play mp3' and other multimedia related issiues you should install 'automatix' on your ubuntu system.

Fareez:
www.linuxiso.org has links to download a number of distributions. Unfortunately, they are down at the moment due to a drive failure. I would expect them to be back up by the weekend.

You can download a free version of SuSE Linux from www.opensuse.org. Just click downloads on the left and it will tell you what do do. However, if you are unlucky like me and have dial-up, do not even bother trying to download it! You need to download 5 CDs worth of data; a task that would take 7 days for a 56k dial up connection!!!

You can go to https://www.redhat.com/apps/download/ and download Fedora which is free. We have our server set up on an IBM machine with mysql and php. The only thing that confused me while using it is that when ever you restart mysql, it gives 'mysql restart failed' message even if it started successfully. I hope the latest version has fixed that problem.
