Just got hold of a copy of Partition Magic 8, and there is this thing called PQBoot which is supposed to be a boot selector. I'm wondering that has anyone ever tried it before? If so, is it worthing using?

I've tried it, it works well, but it's fairly useless.

I see you're using winXP, so I'm assuming you're looking to dual-boot Linux.
Just use Lilo or Grub; it's set up in the Linux install process and is fairly self-explanatory.
If you want more information on Lilo or Grub, just search this forum.

I use PQBoot works great. You will have to make a little 60mb dos partition - I suggest on your first harddrive. It will guide you throught the process. It is much slicker than grub or lilo if you want to add or change an OS. Also easier to recover if all hell breaks lose. It auto hides partitions that conflict etc. NICE

... and that's where the problems with it started in my case, when it hid my windows partition to boot linux.
I wasn't able to boot windows. I tried fixmbr in winXP-repair when booted from CD, but that didn't work. My windows bootdisk appeared to be damaged, so no luck there.

it took me a while to find out that my first partition was hidden, then I needed a program to activate the partiton again. (I had the partition magic disks, but the floppies were also bad...)
I finally used ranish partition manager to reactivate my partition and then installed lilo. much better in my opinion.

And my final conclusion: Never rely on floppies... Bad idea!!!!

Thanks to all your replies. I guess I'll just leave this PQBoot alone from now on. It litually scared the hell out of me when I found out that my windows won't boot.
Luckily the floppies worked. However... Bad idea!!!!
