i tried configuring dns over redhat linux 9 but after all the configurations are done when i try to restart it, the status for stopping the service giving some authentication failure error, i read the book there is somethin written about rndc , can anybody help me out here.

when you say you tried configuring dns do you mean as a client or as a server and please list the details if your wanting server the service in question is bind not dns bind is the name of the dns service for linux dns is simply a dns client im not running redhat 9 since i use only debian based distros now (good by to dependency nightmares) but if your trying to configure bind through some gui redhat app (rh 8.0 had such) let us know what settings your entering as is i know nothing about your setup so its dificult to trouble shoot...

im configuring dns server as in bind server over redhat linux 9, i confgiured it through the gui tool available for bind in redhat linux new versions 8 and 9, but when i restart the service, the service fail to stop giving some authentication error. The other thing is when i tried to look for the configuration in book i went through some bind authentication and key generation process named rndc i dont understand the concept of rndc. if anybody of you understand the purpose of it please explain me
