Hello,
I am trying to access our intranet and another web site that we are hosting within our company. I can't access the site by just typing the name but I have no problem when entering the ip address.
I have check to see what DNS IP address is the DHCP giving out and it is the correct one. However, if I manually enter the DNS in the TCP/IP section the web site comes up with no problem. (client side)
I thought the problem lies with our DNS server but now i am no longer sure because it works fine when I enter DNS manaully onto my client machine.Any help will greatly appreciated.

Sound like ya need to install Bind. If I understand it correctly it will cache the name resolution locally and it will speed up internet surfing cause you can skip the dns lookup. Been reading up on it because I'll be settin it up soon.

Check the Hosts file (found in /etc/hosts you may log in as root and check the entries there to see if you need to manually modify it using gedit or any other text editor.
When logging on locally with any account ,for example, it should read:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain
(with no hash mark # at the beginning of the line)
The name "localhost.localdomain" should appear binded in this manner also in your TCP/IP settings as well as in the firewall settings (if any).
This is just an insight, may not be the correct answer you are looking for, but I hope it gives you more hints on where to search info.
