How can I recover stuff off a damaged volume?

I have the original hard disk that seems to be failing. I made a ghost image of it. When this image is transferred to another disk, fsck goes CRAZY on this volume and moves EVERYTHING into lost+found. It won't mount otherwise. What can I do?

I can boot and see the disk, I need a utility to use to recover files.

It would appear I have partially succeeded with Norton Ghost Explorer on Windows, but I need more files than I got, if possible.
