I am using RedHat 7.1..the PC is connected to a 4port Linksys router...I cannot get an IP adress from the router, cannot ping the modem either. I am a new Linux user...I was wondering If I have to enable the DHCP or something else..that will get me online. Any seggestions??

Me again! I took the computer to school to get some other things done...pluged the Ethernet cable in and was online with no problem. It is a dual boot with XP...and I can do a succesful loopback ping.
