Hi

There is no default root password in Linux RH.During the time of Installation you have to give the password to enter in to the system

On install I was asked to create a username and password, which I did. Now, when I log on with that username and password and try to change any system settings, I get asked for a root password, which I have never set. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Hi,
If you have entered the USERNAME and PASSWORD during the installation, then you have to enter the same username and password when it prompts. But i surprised!!!!! that without entering the root password how you complete the Installation of Linux. Please confirm that what is the root password which is given at the time of the installtion.

I can't use the USERNAME and PASSWORD that I was asked to use on install, because it is asking me for the ROOT PASSWORD when making changes when I am logged on as the created user...

Any suggestions...?

You should be able to boot single-user mode as indicated here:

http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-9-Manual/custom-guide/s1-rescuemode-booting-single.html

Then, enter a "new" root password like this:

# passwd root

Afterward, re-boot (# shutdown -r now) and you should be alright.
