Debian won't detect my hardware

i've tried to install debian 3.0r1, the official "sarge", and the unofficial "sarge" and none of them detect my hard drive, nic, or much of anything else... both "sarge" releases will at least detect the nic and try to download device drivers but always comes up with errors... red hat 9.0 and mandrake 9.1 have both worked(with some troubles related to my MS USB Optical Mouse but nothing serious). and also... will i need special drivers for my optical mouse? or will it work just fine? any info is highly appreciated

during the install it should give you the option of installing device drivers....
look thru the lists and find your hardware and add the modules....
make sure you install discover, and if it is on your disks you could also do kudzu.....
are you saying they arent detected or that you havent been able to get them to work, you often still have to set them up to work even if debian does support them....
hollar back if you still need some help
