for some reason my computer does not like Redhad 9 or fedora...i no fedora is a build off of redhat, i get an Xfree error at every install, ive downloaded and reburnt images, computer just wont accept it...So anyway back to my question.. I am currently using Mandrake but here (my school) my comuter teacher just ordered 2 new computers and installed Fedora, which as YUM...i posted before asking for a yum program in Mandrake but that one is confusing as hell and i was just wondering (i am getting pritty good at linux and looking for a more challanging one) if Debian has a yum program? ive herd that it does and its called something like AddProg or appsprog or something like that? anybody no what its called? and or a different lnux distro i should go to? sorry if this sound like gibberish the bell just wrang so what im really askin is
-yum program in Debian?
-Better Linux than mandrake or redhat?1.4 amd

Debian has apt-get.
RedHat/Fedora Core has apt-get & yum.
Slackware has swaret.
Gentoo has portege. In fact, most people thing apt-get for Debian is the best one out there so you don't need yum for Debian; apt-get can do the job just fine...

If you want optimizations and customizations, use Gentoo because you compile everything from source (with one command). Debian is good for stable systems or when you don't have the CPU power to compile everything from source. Slackware's swaret doesn't have many packages available compared to Debian or Gentoo, but it's good for keeping a server up-to-date, for example.

thx...i think im gunna try gentoo when i get home
