OS: Win98 Multiboot
CPU/Ram: K62 350M/128M Ram
Comment:

Hi friends, I am a novice and trying to install Debian onto my system without
success so far :(
My system config: K62 350mh, Super 7 MOBO, 128 M Ram
My hard disk partitioned with Partition Magic 7 as:

Hard disk 1 80G
Primary 1 4G win98
Primary 2 4G win 98
Primary 3 4G win 98
Primary 4 68G extended (many more partitions)

Hard disk 2 8G
Primary 1 4G win98
Primary 2 2G win 98
Primary 3 2G linux

I copied the Debian distribution folder onto HD1 Pri 1 partition, bootup into DOS
execute install.bat and the configurating process could not detect my system
hard drives at all

Any help will be appreciated.

First off you really need at least two
partitons for linux, one for your root file
system (/) and one for swap (~=RAM).

You also want to download bootable ISOs
instead of distribution folders, head over
to www.linuxiso.org to grab the latest.

You may also want to think about giving
linux a little more space than 2Gb. If you
can I would suggest copying all your stuff
from the second hard drive onto the first
and then use the whole disk for
linux....8Gb should be fine.

you may also want to consider a network/ftp
install if you have a cable modem. i say
this only because i downloaded woody CD1
and it would not get xserver running
correctly on my Matrox G400. Installing
from floppy/cable modem resolved all my
problems.

A quick (25 min)and painless Debian install
is knoppix. Be sure and download the EN (english) version and burn a CD. You will need a 3Gb partition to install from the CD to your HD. It usually gets all H/W running.
Once up, you can use all Debian tools to upgrade. knoppix has mozilla and OpenOffice
installed by default.
