Can anyone tell me how to install .DEB packages under Suse Linux 9.3 ? I'm trying to install some programs and it seems that Konqueror knows the filetype .DEB, displays an icon for it but when I try to open the package I get some message from some archiver. I can only install .RPM packages, which are automatically opened with Konqueror and YAST.

Deb packages (if I'm right ) are binary source packages, and will need to be compiled, ( I am unsure myself how to do this at the moment, ) If they are Tar , files they will first neet to be un, tarred ( same as unzipped ) and placed in a directory,
From terminal. or GCC you will then need to enter the commands and compile and then install,,,
Not much Help I know ,,, Just telling ,,, what you probably already Know,,
As for the commands to do these things ,,,
Well I'd have to go hunting them down myself, and as I've downloaded some of the debian cd's I will be giving debian a go here within a week or two. to see if I can learn how to compile and install different things myself,,,
Well good luck Huh!!!
Maybe someone else can be of ( More ,, Or Better )) help ,,
MSI 845e mb 1 gb ram and a p4 2.4n running xp ,win 2000 advanced server and win 98 SE alot to learn and I know so little !!!!

Deb packages are pre-compiled binaries for debian based systems and do not need to be compiled. Source code does need to be compilied and usually comes in .gz or .bz files.
Suse is rpm based, try using a program like alien to convert the package from one format to the other.
