an old slackware user has decided to try debian:) i'm going to be installing on a non internet box and i'm wondering how many of the cds do i need to do a rather normal desktop system?

I'm a slacker too but the last time I installed debian I used a network install - no good to you as you have no internet. From what I remember only the first 2-3 CDs were needed for a desktop install, the rest being mainly source....I may be wrong though!

after a bad taste left by several debian based i think maybe i'll stick to slack. :) it runs like mad, never crashes, and is crazy quick.

I know what you mean...the last time I played with debian it started installing all sorts of things I didn't want it to with apt-get, including some slip stuff which set its own IP and played havoc with our network! Having been a mandrake user and tried most other distros under the sun, I now run slack on my servers at work, on my desktop and also on my two computers at home....I've become a slackoholic! :)

Success!!! i managed to modify my old cd burner into a bvb burner (bread versatile burner) i then popped it into drive one on my toaster and turned it on i hard wired the video right on in and i could see it booting heh it found my slackware bvb! i also discovered i had 64 mb of bc ram (bread crumb)... later i'll tell you about the install
