crontab doesnt detect changes!

Hi, after changing /var/spool/crontab/user with the time and script i want to be schedualed for running , i need to restart crond daemon for the changes to be uploaded to the system. does it relate to some old/new cron version? how can i make it detect changes automatically? thanks in advanced

Hi Mongar, how did you change the specific crontab ? Did you use "crontab -e" ? Then it will be refreshed automatically after saving the changes, no restart of the daemon is required.

Dear Wollie, thanks for the response i havent edited the file from crontab -e you are right. but after i did edited the file from crontab -u user -e its still not working. my cron tab log shows me only this input:

hi, here is the entry i entered via crontab -e: 34 17 * * * date >> /tmp/dates.txt which didnt work for me.

no clue ! The entry is correct and does (!) work on SuSe and Tru64 Unix. Did you really edit the crontab file for that user ? Editing the file will sometimes result in queer effects.
