I'm using the Gnome DE (desktop environment)

From the Applications menu I chose
Sound & Video
Sound recorder

From there , and the menu bar at the top

File
Volume control

Next we'll add a few things

Edit
Preferences

select and checkmark

Microphone
Microphone capture
Mic Boost ( +20dB )
Mic Select

Now in the " Switches " tab select and checkmark the " mic boost "

be sure there are no red x's at the bottom of the Volume controls,,,

Should now be able to record from the Mic,,,

P.S. Forgot also to mention, to also check the volume levels and make sure that they were also above 0 ,,, so that the recording could then be saved to a file and listened to later,,,,

When you open ,, " Sound Recorder " on the bar with , record from input , can you select " Microphone " ?

What Desktop Environment are you Using?

Do you have sound, is your sound card Working ?

Do you have alsa utils installed and gnome-sound-recorder?

Do you have alsa utils installed and gnome-sound-recorder? <<<<<<<< I "think" yes. I have alsa thingy (applications > sound and video > alsa thingy)

Thanks!
