I currently am connected to the internet with cable thru Comcast. I have to give this up and wonder what alternative way I can connect to the internet. I have Ubuntu 8.10 installed and do not have a router. Please offer your best tekkie knowhow.

Surely it depends on what ISP's offer in your area ? the majority can supply the neccessary hardware..

Hi. AT&T can give you a DSL connection which will work with Ubuntu. There is a company in Seattle called Eskimo North which offers broadband connection. You buy modem just like AT&T.
