I am using pure-ftpd in fedora 8 and believe I have it setup right, but when I connect it doesn't log me all of the way in. It lets me connect, says the user is ok then I type in my password and it stalls. Any ideas? Here is what I get when I try to connect through CLI.

220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [privsep] [TLS] ----------
220-You are user number 1 of 50 allowed.
220-Local time is now 09:45. Server port: 21.
220-This is a private system - No anonymous login
220-IPv6 connections are also welcome on this server.
220 You will be disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity.
User (10.128.2.82:(none)): coleg
331 User coleg OK. Password required
Password:
Connection closed by remote host.

After I type in my password it stays for approx 45 secs before it closes the connection.

Is the user allowed to use FTP?
Maybe there is a group named FTP and the user must be a member of this group to be allowed to connect.

Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!

Permissions I agree.

Read through this.

While they claim to just use that startup command it really needs to be fine tuned to how you want to access it. User, groups and file permissions are usually needed.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

Ok, I got that worked out w/ permissions, I was sure that I added that user to the group, but must have not. Now I have another question, for some users it's easier for them to just use explorer to connect but I get an error when trying to go to ftp://myserver.domain.net, it says:
Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you entered the filename correctly and that you have permission to access the folder. Details: The ftp session was terminated.

Problem is, is that it throws that error up before it gives me a chance to type in credentials.
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried the following to access your FTP server from within Explorer?

ftp://username@myserver.domain.net

Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!
