Does anyone know where I can get a package installer for a Via Vt6102 ethernet adapter?

I've been helping someone in trying to figure out why they can't connect to the internet after he just installed Mandrake 2008 and it appears as if his system is seeing the adapter, assigning him an ip, subnet and gateway but he gets host destination unreachable when we ping the gateway ip and has no internet access. I'm not Linux savy enough to know if there is something missing that must be manually configured. He is dual booting Windows and Mandriva, so I know his setup is working for Windows. Any ideas of what is being overlooked?

dns entry and/or gateway. Use ifconfig -a to see. Be sure it says "up".
