I have a rage pro 128 graphics card and
I have a generic 17" moniter (Digiview).
First off I have to install everything from text mode because it wont let me use graphical mode.
When I try to configure my monitor and graphics card it says i have an error in one of the two... I know its the card because i have run X on this monitor before. If anyone has a fix for this please let me know. Also keep in mind that I am fairly new with linux so try to explain in lamens terms.

The best way to configure your X server is using "Xconfigurator".
You have to know very well the settings of your video card and of your monitor.
The Xconfigurator asks you for the kind of graphics card, refresh rates of the monitor and resolution.
First try with a low resolution and a generic graphics card. If it function, try more resolution until you have a better configuration of the X server.
Read the man pages of Xconfigurator on you Linux. Use the command "man Xconfigurator"
