My computer will not turn on. The mbLed light is on...on my asus a7v motherboard. I mean i get no power at all to my computer except for that damn light.
all i did was put a new ata100 hard drive in and it wont power on. I even took it back apart and it wont start. I was so excited about installing Mandrake today and my cpu goes all to hell.

Check the connection from the power supply to the MoBo. You probably knocked it loose by accident when you had your computer apart. Also make sure that the power switch is connected to the MoBo.

two possibilities: #cable is in wrong(not really possible, it should be keyed, unless you are using a non ata 100 compliant 40 pin cable, one of the older ones????) #You have the jumper settings wrong: single/slave for one drive:master or slave depending on your config otherwise. Once you have this taken care of you will need to either run your bios hdd detect function if necessary. Once I had a similar problem with a bad power cable-I bought a splitter and eventually swapped out the power supply. Good Luck.

Make sure the motherboard isn't grounding out on the metal case. Ensure your standoffs didn't move when you installed the Video Card. Does the power supply fan come on? Can you use a pwr supply from another pc for testing? Lee
