im currently dual booting with windows xp pro and mandrake linux 9.0 and linux is runing so much slower then windows. it takes gaim forever to start up and mozilla takes a very long time to show up on the screen. it goes so slow the curser sometimes locks up for a couple seconds. i dont think this is normal i kinda thought a 2.4 ghz processor could handle linux runnin gnome. it doesnt seem to be my computer because windows xp pro runs fine without any trouble and its very fast. does anyone know why linux would be running so slow and if theres a way to fix this without reinstalling linux? (it takes me about an hour and 20 minutes to install linux so i really dont want to go through that again). redhat never ran this slow on my computer that had half the ram and was 667 mhz. its runnin slower then nt 4.0 and that was extremely slow.

check to make sure its finding all your ram. type: cat /proc/meminfo should show you your total system memory (as well as a bunch of other useful info) i had a problem with 9.0 only finding 32 MB of ram when there was really 700 MB. This would cause your system to respond rather sluggish fast processor or not.
