Comment: I am looking for a computer that I can use as a server. The computer will not have mission critical information and will be simpley used as a learning tool for myself to have a self hosted web presence. I also plan on creating vertual accounts so that the kids and a few friends of mine can pratice html and also have a free of charge web presence. The computer will also act as a personal desktop I plan on using a cable or dsl connection with eather a stati IP or using a DNS server that can handle dynamic IPs. I have a working knowldge of html and have created several we sites. I also can trobble shoot an repair a common PC.(never seen the guts of a server) That said I have no knowldge of Appache RAID or RAID controllers have never used a scsi drive nore do I have any Idea how a host works. I plan on spending 500 to 700 on the computer itself I allredy have the perfs. Shoud I look for a server computer? or a pc type desk top?
I see that there is a wide array of both on e-bay withing my price range. I find the number of choices to be confusing. Thanks for your help.

Reply: (edit)if you want a server look for cpu power lots of memory and fast disk drives. With the money you have I would just get an amd chip with a couple of ide drives and 512 megs mem. and a good motherboard. you'll have money left over.
