I am getting this error message: No acceptable C Compiler found in $ path?
trying to install a program, I am a complete novice!!

Are you saying that the system complains
that there is no gcc installed on your system?
If that's the case, then you are either
didn't install it or it is not in your path
which I think you didn't install it! So,
you need to go back to your CD and install
it. Which distribution do you have anyway?
