hello everyone
i just got a redhat 6.1 machine up on my network and i was wondering if anyone could help me get my fonts smaller or resolution higher? it is kindof an older machine so i am notshure if it is possible change the resolution it has like a 1 meg pci video card thanks for any help

try this to change hardware settings like screen resolution and such, you will probably have to reboot for changes to take affect
Run the command (as root):
/usr/sbin/setup

Be aware that changing the settings to something that doesn't work will not allow you to bring the system up in graphic mode.
If you are new to LINUX you are at high risk to mess up your system.
If you are more experienced and know how to deal with the non-graphic mode it is still possible that you get stuck unless you make a change in
/etc/inittab
switching the default init mode from 5 (graphic) to 3. This means your syste comes up like MS-DOS, just in ascii. You log in and them give the command:
init 5
and it ill continue to move to the graphic mode.If everything is allright, you see you gnome or kde or whatever. If not, the system may be inaccessible and you can only reboot.
In this case you may be very very happy to have SOME way to work with the system and to be able to reverse your changes.
If you finally solve you screen resolution problem you can change inittab back to the previous.

on your machine there is a program called xconfigure in first find it it should be in /usr/X11R6/bin when you find it logout of xsession choose shutdown (console mode)login as root type cd /usr/X11R6/bin if that is the location of xconfigure .then type xconfigure and it will start a program to adjust your diplay properties.and it will let you test your setup.if you have any questions email me at mbrady@icubed.com

This is ridiculous! Chamging the screen
resolution should be a lot simpler than
running Xconfigurator and risking screwing
up all the other settings that already
work. One of you geeks ought to write a
line or two of simple useful code to solve
the problem.
