cant upload ftp

Hey, I have slackware on my server, and recently I can;;t upload big files., I try to upload my sites backup aprox. 266mb and the server timesout. I use SmartFTP as ftp client. what could it be, I tried to unistall the client and reinstall a new version but same problem. what might be the problem? prob a limit on transfer, how can i check if yes? thanks,

Have you checked your disk space on the server?
