can't see text in terminal windows

I have a Tiger system built from a kit. It has a Soyo 5EMA+ socket 7 MB with a K6-2 400 processor and 64 MB of PC-100 RAM. It has a SIS 6326 video card with 8 MB of memory. I have Windows 98 installed on it with Linux 6.2 installed on another partition. I have some problems one of them being poor graphics in some of the windows such as emacs. When I start emacs, I can see all the text that is there to begin with but when I try to enter any text, it is all blacked out and not at all visible. The drop down menus are not visible either. They are like grayed out and some of it is just barely readable but not good enough to do anything. This is just one example. The color xterm and regular xterm windows react the same way. Gmone terminal is ok. I sure would appreciate some help. Thanks, Larry

I have the same problem with a SIS card and RH 6.1. No terminal is no good. If I don't get it resolved I will try KDE and then Suse.
