berdy.

You need to go to freshrpms.net and get the mp3 plugin for xmms. They are in the process of moving so if thier site is down do a google search for a mirror. It is a small download I have never had a problem with it on any of my RedHat 9 boxes

thank you for your reply. but it didnīt help. i downloaded that rpn file - no result. same thing - it is playing exacly 1 sec, and after ĻhungsĻ but it plays cd though.
any ideas, why my xmms player hungs?

hi,
after installing take preferences in xmms,
i think ctrl+p or right click on xmms player options-preferencescheck the player with diffrent Audio i/o plugins,
hope this would work, coz, i too had the same pbm, but doing this solved my problem.

Hi berdy,
You got : "make[2]: gcc: Command not found" ?
Did you install egcs on your system ? If so you should make a symlink to it with the name gcc in /usr/bin. Else you should install gcc from your distro, or get it on it's binary form, or even compile it, if your computer is getting bored, like mine
:-).
Anyway, it would be fine if you could tell me which Xmms version it was and if you got any error messages.
