This is freaky wierd.
I'm making CD-RWs with a 4x Mitsumi drive. I can mount them in Linux and Win2k, but not on my Win98 laptop!! I don't understand.
I've tried about every combination of these settings I can. I'm about to come to the conclusion that mkisofs is not the problem.
-T = 8.3 to long filename conversion table
-r = enable Rock Ridge extensions
-J = write a Joliet (Windows) style CD
-l = enable iso9660 32 character filenames
-a = add all files
(-T doesn't make a difference because I'm only using 8.3 filenames)mkisofs -alrJ -o cd_image /cdtest
cdrecord -v -eject speed=4 dev=0,0,0 -data cd_imageI don't really see any more settings for cdrecord. Is there a pad size or mode that I'm missing? I have used this CD writer before and the disks (which I THINK were all CD-Rs) still work fine. I did not write down the settings I used at the time for some reason so I can't say what I'm doing differently.
I would like to be able to test these CDs with another Win98 system, but the laptop is the only one I have in the house. I'm wondering if it could be a problem with the laptop CD drive but I don't have problems with any of my other CDs, bought or made.
Any help is appreciated.

You need a utility program to read packet written discs (rw's) in a cdrom under win 9x.
Try searching around adaptec.com for the required software.

"Note: Only CD-RW drives can read and write data to CD-RW discs." -- adaptec.com EZ CD Creator FAQ.
I believe I see the problem. I was using CD-Rs before, not CD-RWs. No wonder they worked just fine. HOWEVER, that still doesn't change the fact that both Linux and Win2k were able to mount the CD-RW on a NORMAL cd-rom drive.
Sigh.
The site did have a lot of useful information, though. Thankyou. I'll try it tonight.
