Hi,

I'm a newbee on Linuw, I have start for the first time since 1 week.
I have install Mandrake, I have a first partition with windows xp on, the rest of my hdd is for Linux. In Linux, I'm log in "root" but I want change the autorisation for write or not on partition, but the system say "Can't change autorisation ! the file system is in read-only". When I start Drakdisk, the option "ro" isn't check. And my root user is in all group of users. Why I can't modify the autorisation ?

Thank you.
Chris

I think the reason is that your Windows partition is a NTFS and not FAT32. Linux has read support for NTFS but experimental write support. So I guess that's why you cannot change it.
I think you can use partition magic (Windows/DOS program) to convert partitions from NTFS to FAT32.
You might be able to anble write access NTFS by recompiling your kernel, but I've not tried that myself yet.

XP is probably using NTFS, which Linux can't safely write to because Microsoft refuses to provide documentation.
