You need to dit the inittab file (which is in the /etc directory) and change your run level from 3 to 5.

Find the line that reads:
id:3:initdefault:

change it to:
id:5:initdefault:

Before you do the above you may want to check that your X server is actually configured correctly. After logging in at the text prompt type startx and see if you get a GUI.

When you installed Fedora did you install X, knome or kde in the install packages.

These options come up in the install process just after the part of formating the hard drive.

The reason I think you may have not ticked the correct boxes is that I did exactly the same in FC4 a few weeks back.

ps I was tired!!

Turn it off, wait a while, turn it back on again.

If you are able to run startx without an error saying that the command cant be found (not that the command doesn't work) you already have X installed.

It is much more likely that it is not configured correctly. Try running xorgconfig or see if there is a specific fedora configuration package for X....it used to be something like redhat-config-xsetup.

Try typing setup at the prompt this will bring up a tui menu where you can configure X and other settings if needed.
