CPU/Ram: 233MHX/64MB
Comment:

I am using Linux Mandrake 10.0 and I want to log on as root, but the login screen that shows a list of users only shows my non root user, but no root user.

Is there a way to login as root in Linux Mandrake 10.0?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

if you just need a console for root
open up a console and type su then your root password

if you want a graphical interface as root kill the X server and go into console land - there login as root and then type startx to get the gui again

Money not an issue?

Firstly you shouldn't really be logging in as root, especially into X. A better solution would be to log in as a regular user and then use su or sudo to do anything that requires root privilages.

Saying that you can still achieve what you want, are you using kdm, gdm or xdm as your graphical login manager? If I remember correctly mandrake has a customised version of kdm called mdm which was used as default. I'm sure you can select what users are displayed from within the mandrake control centre (mcc).

If you to that control panel for the login manager (I dont remember exactly where it is) there will be a checkmark next to the root user (or maybe checkmarks next to everybody except root). Either check root, or uncheck it as the case may be.
