I have the three cds burned for Mandrake 8.1. However, I couldn't boot from the CD. Furthermore, I after making the bood disk, I still couldn't install. With the boot disk, all I get is a blank screen with a a flat line cursor blinking in the upper right hand corner. I left the computer like this for 2 hours with not change, so it isn't a slow install process.
What I think it might be, but I'm open for new suggestions along with solutions is that even when intalling windows, my cd rom is not recognized unless the bootdisk has the cdrom driver on it. So, I'm wondering if I can't install because the linux boot disk has no cd rom driver on it. How can I fix this?
Another problem that might contribute to it, I can't get to my bios. I've tried all the normal key combos and can't get into it. My computer is a 3 year old compaq with the standard issue cd rom.
Help!

Try this,as soon as you boot or reboot pop your cd in.This is the way I had to do it, and it worked for me.You don't have to use the boot disk.
If this doesn't work post back.
