I cant get my modem work!(Aethra ADSL USB Starmodem)I m a newbie, few days ago installed Fedora(linux 4 the 1st time)I dl the file USBADSLV151-1008fr.tar.gz ,gently proposed by Audiophile(thanx!),from http://www.olitec.com/adsl-linux.html ,copied it to /home ,extracted it,copied CnxE2Fw.bin file to /etc, # make, got e2.o in the ADSL folder and copied it at /lib/modules/2.4.2/kernel/drivers/usb.Then #insmod e2,then unloaded the usb modem with #rmmod usb-uhci and reloaded with #insmod usb-uhci.Controlled e2 with #lsmod,ok.Before starting i had controlled from root #rpm -q(kernel-source,gcc,make)=ok.When i finally tried to load #ifconfig hsb0 up "device not found".Also tried #if config hsb1 up that i saw at lsmod but nothing.I also tried tha Accessrunner driver from http://spazioinwind.libero.it/paolo_minazzi/aethra-starmodem.html ,copied it at /home,extracted it,but dont know how to proceed(no instructions).I entered the kde and controlled the hardware(everything is recognized but not working, soundcard, usb modem, printer)but only the scanner has a driver. How is that?as if they were not plug&play!I keep learning though!!

May help:

Quick Anecdote:I tried two USB ADSL modem with Linux, couldn't get either to work.
So I bought a NetGear DG834 router/modem, put a network adaptor card (NIC) in the PC and set it all up with that. Works beautifully with Fedora Core-1 "Yarrow".
The router is OS independent and is set up using an HTML page in a browser window. I did all that in Windows then switched to the linux setup and had the router connected when I installed Linux.
There were no drivers to load and Yarrow configured the whole thing as it installed.
After the first post-install boot I was connected the the Internet automatically.
If you can afford a router modem it takes most of the headache away, if you have to reinstall it's already there, and you can use it under Windows with little fuss. This one's got a built-in firewall too!
