Cant Detect Apollo p2600 USB printe

I got KDE running and the modem configured for mail and internet... I went through the print manager wizard and set up the printer on /dev/usb/lp0 The printer was not detected.. I then kept going through the wizard and set up on lp1, lp2 and so on, to see if it would detect anything and it would not.. When I boot the system the printer reacts so there must be some kind of basic USB connection.The USB is enabled in the bios. Can anyone give me a URL or advise that would help trouble shoot this problem
