Can't connect to local MySQL server

I just installed the RH9 as a server and included all the packages. When i try to connect to mysql it gives me this error "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)" Anyone know how to solve this problem? Thanks in advance

Make sure mysql service is running /sbin/service mysqld status if not, then do: /sbin/service mysqld start
