Cant compile kernel 2.2.17 help.

Before 'make dep' you should do 'make config'(or menuconfig, or xconfig-you need to be in X-win for this one) Also it is recomended to do 'make mrproper' before 'make config' if you were using that kernel before the compilation because that brings your kernel source into its base state Post again if you have problems

The only thing I would add is make sure you are in the linux directory where you unpacked it.

Thanks to all for your answer, they where really helpful. But I discover thath my kernel source was corrupt and i ought to download the newest version of it. And now its working properly. But i have new problems on the configuration. maybe I'll post another one.. THANKS!!! GOD BLESS YOU ALL
