cant boot new kernel

OS: linux 7.3
CPU/Ram: AMD1.1/256ddr

i am getting an error when i boot my new kernel...
filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
error 15 file not found.

I have re-compiled my kernel before and never got this problem. am i compiling the kernel for the wrong filesystem???i have ext3 and i know i have ext3 support under filesystems

sounds more like a misconfigured boot loader. are u using grub?
