Comment:

I am trying to get my Canon i250 printer working with Linux. I have downloaded drivers from the Canon NZ site and tried to install them.

The install process indicates dependencies on libglade.so.o and libxml.so.1. I have libglade2 and libxml2 installed but not the ones required.

Is there a way to get the missing files and can I install them without conflicting with the versions installed?

Thanks

You can upgrade the two packages libglade2 and libxml2.

Thank you 3Dave - weeks of frustration are over.

I updated libglade2 with no problem. The update for libxml2 indicated a dependency on libhistory (97 dependencies?) so I aborted it.

However even with only the libglade
update the drivers installed and the printer is now working.

Thanks again.

Glad to help....

For future you may want to look into something that will download and install dependencies automatically for you. I haven't used suse for ages but similar tools for other distros are apt-get, swaret, slapt-get, urpmi, yum, and emerge. Have a check on some suse forums to see if there is one that you can use. If I wanted to upgrade my libxml2 on my slackware box all I would have to type is:
# swaret --upgrade libxml2
It would then fetch the package and also download any others that are required, install them and that's it.
