OS: win xp/linux
CPU/Ram: 256 megs

i cannot run a program in the shell window ( it hink the name is this. its similar to the msdos prompt in windows) i dont have the permission! it says: access denied or dont have i/o permissions! how can i correct that?

i m logged as user knoppix ( an advanced user, i tried to log on as root but i couldn t! - how can i do that?)

Since you log in as a regular user, knoppix, there are certain programs you are not allowed to run; only root can run them... Otherwise, you can trash the whole system. If you want a regular user to execute a certain programs, then you can use sudo!!! "man sudo" for more info or how to set up your /etc/sudoers. What is the name of the program you are trying to run as knoppix user?

Are you running Knoppix Linux directly from a CD? If you check out the cheat-code at its website, you would know that you need to get into another virtual terminal by hitting <Ctrl><Alt>F1. Type "root" and no passwd...
