Hi there,i have just built my first computer, and i have downloaded and burned to cd a version of Ubuntu linux. How do i get it to run or install on my new HDD???
cheers bluesfanjoe...

I don't know about the newest version of Ubuntu, but I just booted the iso CD, there was an Icon on the desktop to install to the Hard disk.
Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.

To expand a bit on above post.
You would have had to burn the image properly first. You just can't copy it to a cd. Normally you can view the files under windows. If you see the single file something.iso you messed it up. If you see plenty of files then it may work.
You set the boot order in BIOS to select cd/dvd drive first. You may have a new enough machine to be able to select boot device just when the system powers up.
Then ubuntu should boot in 20 -120 seconds and should like like common desktop in brown.
The icon should say install to hard drive. Follow the instructions.
"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
