Hi all,
I'm a new Linux user, so go easy on me :) I'm trying to connect my Debian laptop to the internet. It used to have Ubuntu on it (Jaunty) but since upgrading would not connect (similar issues as below) to the network, so I decided to try Debian instead.
Basically, when connecting the ethernet cable (on eth0) "Windows Network" (which is the rest of the house) will show up in the Network list. However, none of the other PCs will show up on it.
Furthermore, I cannot connect to the internet now. I'm using DHCP to automatically assign an IP address and have tried manually entering one but I'm still not having any luck.
From reading other threads, here's my current ifconfig info:
# ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:02:3f:cf:9f:bb inet6 addr: fe80::202:3fff:fecf:9fbb/64 Scope:link UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:48 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0 TX packets:22 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions: 0 txqueuelen:1000 RX bytes:3477 (3.3 KiB) TX bytes:3142 (3.0 KiB) Interrupt:21 Base address:0x3000If there's any other information I can supply please ask.
Thanks,
Ross

It is saying there is no IPv4 address and you would need to enter gateway also. Maybe you need to enable IPv4.
Guess it could be router not releasing an ip. Set times to release.
Since you say deb what did you exactly install?"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
