Hi All Guys

Should I forget to plug-in the broadband cable and start the PC, instead of plugging in the cable and rebooting the PC, are there any short-cuts avoiding reboot.

Thanks in advance

Stephen Liu

Would taking the adapter down and reinitializing do it?

Try:
ifconfig ethX down
ifconfig ethX up

Should do it?

Hi,

Thanks for your advice.

However

RH7.3
(as root)
#ifconfig ethX down (works)
#ifconfig ethX up (can't work)

Thanks
Stephen

Steven,
If you boot linux and your cable is disconnected, your ethernet card is not activated. All you should have to do is go into network configuration and select your card anc click activate and you should be able to get online without rebooting. Another allternative to is from the shell, type service network start.
