My Redhat Linux slowed up one day, and being impatient I just shut the PC off and restarted. Now, when Redhat Loads is runs through its whole diagnostic deal, with everythign reading OK, but then the screen blanks. I noticed that if I hit control+alt+delete the monitor will bring up my last seen screen in Linux, then say something about thread recovery and reboot itself. However, upon reboot it does the same exact thing and blanks the screen out. I am doing a dual boot Windows XP and Redhat, but Windows works fine.

In the long list of things that go by when you're booting up is the (red) redhat notice. There should be 7 (count 'em quick) green ok's that follow. Usually after you clobber the system it will tell you at this point that you have 4 seconds to answer Y (yes) to "do you want to reset your files" or something close to that. Yeah, you do...answer Y. The system will then reload from your previous session from the journal files (I believe) and you should be okay. I always check to see at this point if the system says "root file system clean" at boot. It will take a little while for the system to reload and you can watch the progress on a increasing dotted line at the bottom and a percentage of whats done.
