Please excuse my ignorance but I am brand new to Linux. Question: What do I have to do to boot to Gnome Desktop instead of KDE? Thanks.

If you have it installed try running "switchdesk". Failing that, are you using a graphical login manager like kdm or gdm? If so you should be able to select what session type you want and make it default for the future. Another alternative would be to edit your ~/.xinitrc or /etc/sysconfig/desktop.

Thanks 3Dave. You've given me a place to start. I'm trying to learn Linux but it's awful hard to get MS Windows out of my head. Thanks for your help.

There is a wealth of information on The Linux Documentation Project website (www.tldp.org), including a HOWTO on switching from DOS/windoze to GNU/Linux which you may find useful: http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/DOS-Win-to-Linux-HOWTO.html
You will probably find a lot of HOWTOs already installed on your computer somewhere under /usr/share/doc, have a look with "locate HOWTO". You can also display the manual page for any command by using "man", eg: $ man mount There are also often man pages for config files too: $ man lilo.conf
