WARNING NEWBEE GETTING HIS ASS KICKED!!
Loaded Mandrake 8.1 and system reboots after
installation. After selecting video resolution get a flash of the logon prompt then nothing. Blank screen and system won't respond. Figure it's something to do with my
video card (ATI RAGE FURY PRO (32MB AGP))
Really no clue, any ideas?

I think that you have probably chosen the wrong video card during the installation. It sounds like your X server is causing the system to freeze. I've had success getting the video acceleration to work with my Rage 128 Pro card with Mandrake 8.0. I think 8.1 should be at least as good. Try booting to a command prompt (press I for interactive boot when prompted, then choose Text only). Login as root. Then run Xconfigurator and choose a generic video card. Then you can run startx to get into the GUI. I find it easiest to get the video card set up under drakconf, which should be an icon on your desktop. Otherwise you could try just setting it up correctly under Xconfigurator. Be sure that you also have the correct monitor set up. That's been a problem for myself and many others. For the video acceleration, it should be automatically set up using drakconf, or you can try going to http://faqs.lokigames.com/faq.php3?view=index&product=GL0 for a great FAQ. Good Luck.
