boot from cd-rom problem

I'm trying to boot from a PC CARD CD-ROM on a laptop. There is a setting in the BIOS to boot from CD-ROM, but this probably refers to an IDE specification not present on the specific model. I have the driver, but I need to actually boot the drive, not merely access it. This can bo done with 32-bit windows systems HD by simply putting the NTLDR on the floppy, but I'm unsure about this CD-ROM.
