What is the best version of linux for older pc's? Perfer on with GUI if possible. I have come across quite a few old 486's 25,33,50,66Mhz some with 16 or 32meg of ram. Which version best for them. oh yah between 250 to 850 meg hard drives.

Also a bunch of old pentium 75 & 133's 850 to 1.5 gig hd and 32megs ram. What version for them? They all have no os, came from old businesses.

I have found an ftp site with alot of Redhat versions from 1.0 to 8.0.

Unless you guys and gals know any better versions and ftp site's.

I would like to install linux and give them to friends and family to play/learn linux on.

muLinux (http://mulinux.sunsite.dk/) would be a good distribution for the 486s, although it is limited because it is meant to run on your limited hardware.
Some versions of RedHat and Slackware will run on the Pentiums if you leave out several things from the installation. The hard disk space will be tight, but they will run.
