The best one you can get is the one that you build yourself... ;-)
Each distro has its strengths and weaknesses, some people swear by redhat or mandrake, while others prefer debian, suse, or slackware. I prefer slackware for its stability. Best thing you can do is give a couple of them a try and see which one you like the best.

I prefer SuSE. The professional Edition comes with a lot of stuff - at 80 bucks its not a bad deal! Their support is pretty good and they provide updates in rpm packages precompiled for their distro. As far as some of the other distributions: Slackware is great if you really like getting into the nuts and bolts of Linux. Debian is very elegant and very stable. My opinion is to buy a distribution to help financially support the developers. It helps to promote newer versions of your favorite software and these guys have to eat too.
