Best Linux Distro for Firewall?

I have been told that debian 3 is the best for making firewall machines... but is this true? does it even matter? if the same packages are added to a linux os with the same linux kernel, wouldnt it be the same no matter which one you used? i am new but a friend is into it big time and swears by debian for everything.. i would like to take an "easier" linux and set up a comparable firewall to show that it isnt all that important to use debian (if debian isnt in fact superior) thanks all

Have a look at leaf.sourceforge.net . They do ram disk based firewalls. After the machine boots up everything is in ram disk. Any hacker corruption is fixed by power cycling. Can run from cdrom, compact flash, floppy or hard drive.

You can use Red Hat for setting up a firewall. It's easier to use than Debian. Both have the same features (mostly).
