i have a toshiba sattlite 4030cdt and i want to install a os in it i dont like windows so i want linux i have been looking around i have seen: debain SUSE ubuntu linspire mandrake
are any of them good for my rig? any others i you guzs/girls could reconmend?

Grab SuSE 10 OSS from a novel mirror, it's very simple to install and loaded, its a 5 disc install with about every-thing you could ever want.
There's also Knoppix Live - great decompress on the fly os you dont even have to install it!

I run older laptops too, and find that Kanotix (a Knoppix derivative) works very well on 300MHZ units. It is a great way to install Debian without pain, and Kanos scrip page is helpful for post-install configs. KDE is the default, but I prefer xfce or BlackBox. I use KDE on my fast hardware but it is a memory hog. Try to max out the memory to 192MB, but even 128MB will work much better than the 64MB minimum listed 4030 spec.
