This is not my first Ubuntu installation, however, I am having some difficulty setting up my Belkin F5D6001 PCI wireless card (I believe version 2, it came with an ugly antenna) using ndiswrapper in Ubuntu. I read in other forums that using the -d flag with ndiswrapper and using a Realtek 8180 chipset driver would solve this problem, however, -d is not found in the Ubuntu ndiswrapper. I have tried unsuccessfully many times to try and compile ndiswrapper myself. Using Ubuntu was an easy solution to this dilemma, as it was already compiled and put forth in a .deb file. I have come to like Ubuntu a lot, and would hate to have to switch distributions. This computer is not mine, and I have kept it for two weeks now because I am not able to figure this out myself. I would like to know if there is any way I can make this wireless card work with Ubuntu, and would appreciate any help given. The system recognizes the card and associates the Belkin driver with it, yet hangs when any request is asked of it. Also, WLAN1 or whatever does not come up in the network box, unlike the five other successful installations. Also, I am not very good with linux code (symlinks?). I try my best, but this time I cannot figure it out. I have come to you guys many times before for help, and was not disappointed. Thank you.

I got my wireless belkin pcmcia card going under ubuntu using the linuxant driverloader. http://www.linuxant.com/driverloader/ Unfortunately it is a commercial product. I sort of got it working with ndiswrapper, the module and driver loaded without error, I could bring up the interface, assign an IP and even ping itself etc but just couldn't get a link or the light on the card to come on. I'm just finishing off a gentoo install, I'll try again with that and ndiswrapper sometime....

Thanks, unfortunately, I do not want to pay for anything. That was the reason for linux in the first place. Any other ideas?

AFAIK The linuxant driverloader is pretty much the same sort of thing as ndiswrapper. Try the 30 day trial from them just to see if you can get it working. If you can then ndiswrapper should work as well. Saying all that, using either ndiswrapper or driverloader will not fully support your card, eg you wont be able to use raw monitoring and subsequently you wont be able to use programs like kismet or airsnort. The reason I haven't played around too much with ndiswrapper is that I plan to get a better supported wireless card soon.

Update: Got my belkin card working with gentoo using ndiswrapper no problem. What .inf file are you using?
